“Code 10 – The device cannot start” in Device Manager in Windows XP/2000/Me/98
Windows® XP/2000
- Click the Start button and select Run.
- In the text box, type
msconfig
and click the OK button.
- Select Selective Startup.
- Uncheck Startup Items and click the OK button.
- Click the Exit Without Restart button.
- Right-click the My Computer icon.
- Select the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button.
- Click the plus (+) sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
- Right-click USB Mass Storage Device and select Delete.
- Insert the Solutions CD that came with your drive into the CD-ROM. This will install the driver.
- Restart the computer.
Windows Me/98
- Click the Start button and select Run.
- In the text box, type
msconfig
and click the OK button.
- Select Selective Startup.
- Uncheck Startup Items and click the OK button.
- Click the Exit Without Restart button.
- Right-click the My Computer icon.
- Click the Device Manager button.
- Click the plus (+) sign next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
- Right-click USB Mass Storage Device and select Delete.

- Click the Start button and select Run.
- In the text box type
msconfig
and click the OK button.
- Select Normal Startup.
- Restart the computer.
